Why isn't anyone talking about the lack of funding in the US for the arts?

Symphonies, and other arts organization, are closing all over the country.
It is important to note that in stark contrast to other professionals, the artist enjoys neither recognition nor financial support on anything resembling the scale of their contribution to society.

The NY Philharmonic has been sent to North Korea as a diplomatic act, as an example of the best of our culture, our highest achievement. Yet arts funding is consistently cut. We want them to do what the government cannot, yet will not support them here in the US.

This is a perfect occasion to raise arts funding issues!
