On a trip to Cambodia in 1997, organist Ethan Holtzman encountered two things: a tropical disease and Cambodian psychedelic pop from the 1960s. He pays tribute to both with his band
Dengue Fever. Based in LA, the group features a Cambodian-born singer and five American alt-rockers. They join us to play live songs from their new album, "Venus on Earth."

Can't wait to hear them.
Paul Theroux's writings are mostly insufferable, but he has written some nice things--"The Great Railway Bazaar," for one--plus a creepy ghost story that takes place in Malaysia, and references the Japanese invasion--the main character suffering ghostly visitations has dengue (aka "breakbone") fever.
Always fascinated with DF since. I hear there have been outbreaks in Texas.
