New York magazine classical music and architecture critic Justin Davidson likened Alice Tully Hall original design to "a highbrow speakeasy, as if there were something furtive about all that chamber music going on inside." I wonder if historians and architects will someday look back and decry the defacing of the original Lincoln Center. It looks great to contemporary eyes but since it's such a radical redesign, will it someday seem like good intentions gone overboard?
Why wasn't the auditorium reconfigured to add a center aisle?
