Imelda May

Imelda May has been nicknamed Dublin’s answer to Amy Winehouse.

And there are indeed similarities between her and the multiple-Grammy winner provocateur from the UK: the soulful repertoire, the irreverent attitude and the powerful voice. But Imelda’s sound is more rockabilly, a genre she has loved since she was four. She performs live in our studio.

Imelda is world class. If you're lucky enough to meet her, you'll also find that she's one of the nicest people you'll get a moment with in show business.

Winehouse is a talent, no doubt, but she hates herself, and is unashamedly self destructive. I appreciate her honesty, but not her unneccessary destruction of musical talent. Winehouse is a trainwreck.

Imelda is not. Lets also not forget that out of the 12 songs on "Love Tattoo", Imelda wrote
10. She also produced the record. As much as I want the vocals mixed louder on that CD, it testifies to her stand-down of ego. It's not about her, it's about the song. Look up her interview clips on YouTube. And she looks stunning in green.

One time Soundcheck did a show on how you hear new music -- internet, live shows, etc.
I thought it was kind of goofy. I learn about new music from Soundcheck and this band is an excellent example.
I'm absolutely buying this cd.
Thanks for the ongoing heads up on great new music.

I fell in love with Imelda's voice the first time Mario Bradley said"Jono you have to listen to Imelda May singing Johnnies got a boom boom" well I bought the album, & I was hooked!! then I saw her in concert, She blew my mind, she sounded better live than on the record!!!
To compare her with Amy whine house though is a bit cruel as I think that she is unique, but maybe I'm a bit biased!!
May the Queen of Rockabilly Reign forever!!!
By the way, If that version of How "High the Moon" ever get's released, I want it as it's one of my favorite tracks ever!!!
