On today’s Soundcheck Smackdown we’re asking the question: Who is the best MC of the new millennium? Our guests are pitting two MCs currently in the spotlight against each other: Kanye West and Pusha T. Though they may be collaborating together on West's upcoming album, we look at the questions on fans' minds: Who has the best flow? Whose lyrics have the most poetry? Whose rhymes best match the beats? Amos Barshad of New York magazine’s Vulture blog, and Jay Smooth of illdoctrine.com square off.
Listeners: Who do you think is the better MC? Leave a comment below.

We stumbled over here by a different web page and thought I might check things out.
I like what I see so now i'm following you. Look forward to exploring your web page yet again.
To Bob from Queens, I've have listened to countless segments without feeling pique that my "musical/ cultural preferences" were yet again not on display. I tune in to "Soundcheck" hoping to be turned on to some good music. Get out of your comfort zone baby or turn the dial for about 20 mins.
BLACK THOUGHT IS THE MC FOR ALL MILLENNIUMS
Kanye is definitely the "MC Of The New Millennium". But is he better than Pusha T at rapping... hell nahhhhhhhh. The metaphor that Pusha is the Di'Caprio to Kanye's Scorsese is spot on.
Wow. I thought a lot more of "Runaway" would be edited on WNYC! Who knew you could say "douchebag" on the radio?
I'm not extensively familiar with either artist but listening to those clips back to back, I'd say Pusha T did it more for me lyrically. Kanye's production is great and sometimes I would prefer a tighter package in a song but in terms of skills, he's a bit outclassed.
where[what] would hip hop be today, without, P.S.M.I.D.S. public school musical instrument deficiency syndrome? i'm just asking.....
The sparse number of responses to the last segment and, presumably, this one should tell you something about your audience's musical/cultural preferences, John. They're not with you on this one. It's been real. Next topic, please.
Kanye's lyrics are corny. His beats are great, but his lyrics are terrible:
"Hit lakeshore girls go all crazy
Hit the freeway go at least bout 80
Boned so much that summer even had him a baby
See back back then then if you had a car
You were the Chi town version of Baby
And I was just a virgin a baby"
Really? You're gonna rhyme "baby" with "baby" TWICE!?
kanye sounds like a middle class kid trying too hard to be down with the streets... its all wrong.
kool keith wins hands down
Pusha T. 1/2 of the Clipse. YUUUUCCCKKK!
