Bonnie Raitt began her career in the 1970s as a young guitarist and singer who shared the stage with legendary bluesmen like Howlin’ Wolf and Mississippi Fred McDowell. But despite entering the record business at a time when it was almost entirely run by men, she managed to maintain complete control over her music. “The feminist movement was really part of the generation I was in,” said Raitt on Soundcheck. “Your turn at the food coop, your turn with the dishes. If a guy wanted to get laid, he’d better step up to the plate.... I would not have signed a record deal where I had to give up one bit of control over what I recorded when and with whom.” Listen to Soundcheck’s entire interview with the blues legend here.

Is there a duet album with your father?
@ mr t- appearing together once, and touring are two different things,no?
Bonnie — That voice of yours is the envy of every vocalist and every guitarist .. it simply cuts through old-school no matter the context; a magic timbre mid-range, the perfect balance of velvet and grit. And clearly better than ever (not to mention those fantastic slide chops to complement the package).
Love Slipstream!!! are you on tour right now?
When Bonnie recently toured with Taj, it was billed as the first time they ever toured together. But, in the Winter of 1971 I saw them in a church in Saratoga Springs, Taj solo and Bonnie with Freebo. I remember it so fondly.
Bonnie,I love you been listening to you since 70's. Really want to see you this summer but it doesn't look like you will be very close to Morgantown,WV.
Thank you also for all your work on behalf of good causes.
Bonnie mentioned the Irish songwriter Paul Simon. Maybe she meant Paul Brady?
Love the show!

I'd love to know what Bonnie's take on Live performance is these days... It's not what we grew up with.
Oh my God that was amazing--Standing in the Doorway gave me shivers like Bonnie Raitt's version of Angel from Montgomery always does.
