Marco Benevento performs in the Soundcheck studio.
(Michael Katzif/WNYC)
Marco Benevento has seemingly done it all, from Benny Goodman to Pink Floyd to Leonard Cohen. He's played in the jazz and post-rock Benevento-Russo Duo, in the funk jazz quartet Garage A Trois, and in the Led Zeppelin-themed group Bustle In Your Hedgrow.
In addition to piano, Benevento employs a wide array of organs, electric keyboards, samples, and even circuit-bent toy instruments that make sounds their creators never intended. It all adds up to a distinctive musical flavor pulling equally from jazz, pop and electronics, all of which are on display on his latest record TigerFace.
But for Soundcheck listeners, Benevento is the guy heard every night at the top of the show: Our theme music is his song called "Eagle Rock." Benevento and his trio recently dropped by the studio to perform that song and others from the record.
