Alfonso Velez and his band AV perform in the Soundcheck studio.
(Michael Katzif / WNYC)
When the New York singer-songwriter Alfonso Velez last joined us in 2008, he played songs that reminded some of us of Paul Simon or Elliott Smith. These days, Alfonso plays in AV -- a band with a brash, more electric sound.
Along with Alfonso, AV also features bassist Matt Basile, guitarist John Kengla and drummer Jamie Alegre. They joined us to play songs from the band's new, self-titled EP in our studio.
