Today on Soundcheck: The boundary-pushing indie rock band Dirty Projectors' latest album, Swing Lo Magellan, earned its way onto a heap of best-of-2012 lists. Now, before the Brooklyn-based band kicks off a new tour at Carnegie Hall, frontman David Longstreth talks about the group's most accessible record yet, and gives a preview of what's to come in the new year. The band also performs three songs live in the Soundcheck studio.

Then, we look back at early negative reviews and first impressions of some now-classic albums from critics who may have gotten it wrong.
