On The Life of the World to Come, the latest album by the Mountain Goats, Darnielle takes inspiration for his song lyrics – and titles – from the Bible. In “Genesis 3:23,” Darnielle alludes to Adam’s banishment from the Garden of Eden in a song about a man returning to a house where he no longer lives. The make-up and melody of the song verge on adult contemporary, but the lyrics make for an intriguing listen.
