Chicago's Maps & Atlases specialize in sunny songs with precise, intricate arrangements that take cues from prog and math rock. In his solo project Cast Spells, Davison adopts a scaled-back version of that approach, giving his songs a little room to breathe. "Glamorous Glowing" boasts unconventional time signatures and a kind of grab-bag instrumentation, but it remains a pop song at its core (and a toe-tapper at that).
