This year, as indie rock grew increasingly fuzzy, buzzy, and beachy, Real Estate stood out as one of the fastest-rising and most highly praised new bands. Riding (nay, surfing) a wave of good will from the blogs, the band released its debut full-length on Woodsist last month. The leadoff track, "Beach Comber," is a slacker anthem that revels in repetition -- an insistent shuffle beat, a lead guitar riff that loops incessantly through the verses, a near-monotonic bass line.
