The lost-at-sea, vocal ambient pop that Brooklyn musician Julianna Barwick creates is inspired by the hymns she heard growing up in a church where no instruments were used. Barwick takes the a cappella style of her youth one step further and uses loops and pedals to create a cherubic choir of out of her lone voice. The result is a polyrhythm of sounds high and low, human and animalistic, comforting and otherworldly.
