Back in the 1970s, hard bop saxophonist Dave Schnitter was a rising star in jazz, recording albums as a leader and as a sideman for Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Starting in the early '80s, however, Schnitter stepped out of the limelight; he continued to perform live, but didn't release another album as a leader until 2004's Sketch. On this track from that album, Schnitter displays his chops on this expressive interpretation of a pop standard.
