After their respective bands broke up, singer/guitarist John-Paul Norpoth and violinist Jannina Barefield decided to form the indie rock group Hollands. The band's music combines Norpoth's singer/songwriter chops with Barefield's classical training, and together they turn out a quirky, prog-rock-esque kind of pop. "Air Conditioned Heart" is as catchy as it is fascinating from movement to movement; Norpoth sings cryptic lyrics with seductive ease while the track glides from a dreamy rock opening to a dancy Studio 54 ending, complete with disco strings from Barefield.
