Queen Ifrica has been touted as one of the most prolific female lyricists in reggae today, and she may also be one of the most soulful. With a voice that’s simultaneously sweet and rough, she sounds like she would be just as comfortable in the world of gospel as she is in the world of reggae. “Coconut Shell” isn’t the most inventive tune – a typical reggae beat runs under the kinds of R&B stylings that run rampant in Top 40 hits - but Queen Ifrica brings a warmth to the melody that lingers long after the song is over.
