Before forming their own ensemble in the 1970s, Jimmy, Percy and Albert "Tootie" Heath had already made jazz a family business. The brothers cut their teeth playing with the giants of jazz for decades, and when they came together as the Heath Brothers, they combined scores of years of experience as sidemen to jazz luminaries such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and Herbie Hancock. Their 2009 album Endurance, their first since bassist Percy Heath died in 2005, saw the surviving brothers teaming up with bassist David Wong and pianist Jeb Patton. The brothers may be in their 70s and 80s, but on this recording, they show no signs of slowing down.
