She's been making a splash in Nigeria and across Europe since 2005, but the Nigerian-German songstress and rapper simply known as Nneka was only recently introduced to American audiences. Concrete Jungle, her first U.S. record released back in February, is a compilation that chronicles five years of soulful, charged tunes from this outspoken chanteuse who's been compared to Lauryn Hill. "The Uncomfortable Truth," one of Nneka's early jams, basks in the warmth of vintage R&B horns as the reedy-voiced singer drops political verses that would do Marvin Gaye proud.
