Playing FRIDAY at: Knitting Factory (361 Metropolitan Ave., Williamsburg)

It seems that Gotham has caught eccentric marching band fever this week. Tonight Chicago's Mucca Pazza blow into town to light up the Knitting Factory before heading uptown to play Lincoln Center Saturday. Thirty band geeks (including five cheerleaders) make up this circus-punk troupe that plays everything from Balkan folk to reimagined rock songs. This funky original tune, written by band member David Smith, captures the band's quirky inventiveness with big, sprawling horns and diggable percussion.
