Emilio Solla and the Tango Jazz Conspiracy
"Remain Alert"
Playing at: Jazz Standard
(116 E. 27th St., Gramercy)
Get: Tickets (2 shows) | Directions

Argentine musician and composer Emilio Solla studied classical piano, but he has long had an affinity for jazz, the folk music of his homeland, and that other Argentine music style, the tango. As the leader of the Tango Jazz Conspiracy, he merges all of these influences together, creating a dynamic sound that's part Old World, part New World, and delightfully unencumbered by musical boundaries. "Remain Alert" begins a bit rocky with an atonal bagpipe solo, but then quickly finds its way thanks to some spirited soprano sax, percussion and accordion.
