Fanshaw is both the nom de plume of singer-songwriter Olivia Fetherstonhaugh and the name of her Vancouver-based trio. Fetherstonhaugh and bandmates Larrisa Loyva and Shane Turner are also members of the Choir Practice collective, but the music they make as Fanshaw occupies a more haunting space. Fanshaw's new album Dark Eyes is full of melancholy character studies set against a background of ghostly melodies. On this beautifully forlorn track about intimacy, Fetherstonhaugh's ethereal vocals are rounded out by troubled guitar and shadowy piano.
