Every weekday, we're offering downloadable songs from artists playing in the New York City area. Here's one from a piano player with a futuristic sound who's performing at Sullivan Hall on Saturday night.

Marco Benevento plays the piano, but he is not stuck in a genre. Judging by the artists he covers, who range from Elliott Smith to the Zombies to Leonard Cohen, he is clearly drawn to all kinds of music. On "Now They're Writing Music" Benevento uses electronic samples and even synthesizers to accent and highlight his deliberate yet somehow ambient piano playing.
