Guitarist Oscar Peñas grew up listening to American jazz, studied music at American schools and now lives in Brooklyn, but he is determined to avoid simply emulating the sound of Yankee jazz masters. Mixing flamenco, Brazilian music and jazz, Peñas creates a soulful style that can best be described as transnational cool. On "San Patricio," Peñas maintains his distinctive musical personality while saluting guitarist Pat Metheny in a composition inspired by the jazz luminary.
