"Black Sheep"
Playing at: Jalopy Theatre (315 Columbia St., Red Hook)
Get: Tickets ($5 at door) | Directions
Guitarist and singer-songwriter Tony Scherr has found success as a sideman and session musician for Norah Jones, John Scofield and Bill Frisell, but for a while now he's had his own thing at the Jalopy, where he plays with his band every Monday night. Scherr came up in the music scene playing jazz bass before pursuing a rock-folk sound, and his sets at Jalopy are known to range from jazzy to bluesy. On the Elliott Smith-esque "Black Sheep," Scherr's vocals meander a bit, but his solid guitar playing grounds this rootsy, languid tune.
