The Wingdale Community Singers play an urban-tinged kind of Americana music that band member and writer Rick Moody describes as "woebegone and slightly modernist folk music, of the very antique variety." The modern and the antique intermingle on the group's most recent album, Spirit Duplicator, which contains original songs by the four band members and the traditional Carter family tune "Death is Only a Dream." The track was recorded in Park Slope, but it sounds like background music for an old-time baptism in a Virginia river.
