For almost a decade, the Respect Sextet have devoted themselves to playing eclectic improvisational music inside and outside the genre of jazz. So it's no surprise that last spring the adventurous collective released an album reinterpreting the music of two out-there heavyweights: jazz eccentric Sun Ra and avant-gardist Karlheinz Stockhausen. "Angels and Demons at Play," a Sun Ra original, is a mellow, slow-burning jam featuring African-inspired polyrhythm and lyrical trumpet.
