Guitarist and composer David Gilmore is one of those artists who is so in demand for session work, you wonder how he ever finds the time for his own projects. But between gigs with Wayne Shorter, Don Byron, Melissa Etheridge, Isaac Hayes, and many more, Gilmore has released two solo discs: 2001's Ritualism and 2006's Unified Presence. This selection from the latter is a kinetic, full-band affair, replete with complex rhythms, dramatic mood shifts, and ambitious solos (including a Victor Wooten-esque turn from bassist Christian McBride).
