"Cry Out"
Playing at: Roulette

Get: Tickets ($15 at door) | Directions

Tonight alto saxophonist Darius Jones will be performing with his "chamber jazz" ensemble showcasing voice and original songs, but on this track, we hear Jones performing an earthy, bluesy, gospel-influenced composition with his trio of Cooper-Moore on piano and Rakalam Bob Moses on drums. Opening with a visceral wail of his sax, Jones leads a musical trek inspired by his roots in the South (Virginia, to be exact). Jones' original composition, with its hoarse, emotional saxophone, exploding percussion and creeping, troubled piano, is as complex, alluring and humid as life below the Mason-Dixon line.
