Wilco fans know Nels Cline as one of the guitarists for the acclaimed group, but long before he joined the ranks of the great American alt-country/rock band he was known for his decades of work in jazz and experimental music. In 2001 he formed the Nels Cline Singers, a free jazz trio specializing in avant-gardist jazz-rock (no actual singing here). This track from their latest release Initiate combines hard-hitting rock rhythm and funked up bass with Cline's fiery, knotty guitar work.
