Femi Kuti, the oldest son of Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, learned the ropes of deep Nigerian funk while playing in his father's band, and since forming his own group in the late '80s and forging his own career, he has come to be known as one of the foremost practitioners of Afropop. This cut from his 2008 album Day by Day grooves with seductive polyrhythmic beat while simultaneously possessing a vaguely sorrowful air. Tonight Kuti performs at Lincoln Center as part of the Midsummer Night Swing series.
