The songs from Small Black's debut were recorded in the attic of band member Josh Kolenik's uncle's house as his uncle made surfboards beneath them, and appropriately, Small Black have a summer-at-the-shore kind of sound. But like their fellow chillwave compatriots, the electro-pop quartet possess an iciness, thanks to vintage keyboards and samplers. On this track, a reedy drum machine beat gently pounds underneath waves of lo-fi synths and nonchalant vocals.
