Midnight Masses arose out of the death of lead singer Autry Fulbright's father, and the band's 2009 EP saw Fulbright leading a collection of songs tinged with dark, ruminative, gospel-inspired beauty. This cut from the group's forthcoming EP Walking Wounded by the Dying Choir contains more of that same emotional, reflective quality, but this time the mood is tempered by a slightly more upbeat rhythm. A quiet march provides the track's backbone as subdued piano and strings round out Fulbright's hushed, soulful vocals.
