Marcus Strickland Trio
"Cuspy's Delight"
Playing at: Jazz Standard (116 E. 27th St., Gramercy)
Get: Tickets (2 shows) | Directions
Soprano and tenor saxophonist Marcus Strickland, along with his twin brother drummer E.J. Strickland, resolved to become jazz musicians early in life, and they've both achieved considerable success at a young age. The 31-year-old siblings have both carved a place for themselves in the current jazz scene with Marcus specifically enjoying stints playing with Roy Haynes, Jeff "Tain" Watts and Christian McBride. Tonight the saxist will perform with his quartet, but this cut from last year's Idiosyncrasies features Strickland with his trio (E.J. also appears in both lineups). Bare and energetic, "Cuspy's Delight" barrels along with carefree vitality.
