Singer-songwriter Rene Lopez grew up being exposed to salsa through his trumpet-player father while simultaneously falling in love with rock, funk and soul, and all of those sounds influence the Latin-soul personality of his own music. Last fall Lopez released the old-school-tinged EP Johnny Wants to Be A Matador, and last month Didi Gutman and Aaron Johnston of Brazillian Girls -- who have recently been creating remixes under the name Re:Redux -- dropped their own clubby version of the EP's title track. This reworking takes the cheerful bounce of the original tune and twists it into an equally upbeat but slinkier dance floor jam.
