The late Steve Lacy, who died in 2004, is considered to be one of the top soprano saxophonists of all time, but for the most part, his compositions failed to find their way into the repertoires of musicians and ensembles. Baritone saxophonist and former Lacy student Josh Sinton set out to change that in 2006 with the formation of the group Ideal Bread, which champions the music of Lacy. On this track from the quartet's latest record Transmit: Vol. 2 of the Music of Steve Lacy, the ensemble offers up its own version of a modal Lacy original.
