The five guys in the New Orleans band Galactic started out playing funk inspired by fellow Big Easy acts such as the Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band. But as the group matured, the members found themselves drawing on hip-hop, blues, jazz and soul. This track, from Galactic's latest release Ya-Ka-May, sees the quintet teaming up with singer Irma Thomas, affectionately known as the "Soul Queen of New Orleans." Thomas leads the way with husky soul while Galactic backs her with slinky, contemporary groove.
