The story of ARMS, Todd Goldstein's solo venture, actually bookends his history with his better-known, now defunct band the Harlem Shakes. Prior to joining the group as a guitarist in 2006, Goldstein was writing songs on his own, but his solo stuff took a backseat once the Shakes began to rise in the indie scene. Goldstein eventually released an LP as ARMS in the UK in 2008 before the Harlem Shakes dropped their debut stateside last year. Then the band went on hiatus and broke up, and Goldstein turned his attention back to ARMS. Since then, the solo project has actually been fleshed out into a trio, but on this title track from the ARMS full-length, which came out in the U.S. last fall, Goldstein is still a solitary man. "Kids Aflame" revels in lo-fi, bedroom recording loneliness as Goldstein's layered, Michael Stipe-esque vocals float over laid-back ukulele.
