It's hard to stand out with a name like David Smith, but the Canadian-born trumpeter has done just that since arriving in New York a decade ago. These days Smith is a regular at Birdland, the Blue Note, and other hallowed NYC jazz clubs. He's also gained notoriety as a sideman, having recorded with dozens of jazz acts as well as big-name crooners like Tom Jones and Harry Connick, Jr. Smith recently finished a new album; be on the lookout for pre-release copies at tonight's show.
