Yes, Joe Henry is Madonna's brother-in-law, and yes, he's also a singer and songwriter, but that doesn't mean he's riding any coattails. Since he released his first album in the mid '80s, Henry has been using his songwriting chops to hop from genre to genre, and he's even taught Madonna a few things along the way; after hearing his song "Stop," Madonna reworked the tune into her hit single "Don't Tell Me." This track, from Henry's 2009 jazz-tinged album Blood from Stars, is a bluesy soliloquy with a post-apocalyptic aura. Strange, random samples, slouchy piano and down-and-out horns underscore Henry's whiskey-soaked vocals on a moody tune.
