Esteemed bassist Christian McBride has no problem venturing outside of the jazz scene in his music-making; over the years, McBride has counted hip-hop favorite Questlove of the Roots and turntablist DJ Logic among his collaborators. But on this original composition from his 2009 album Kind of Brown, recorded with his Inside Straight quintet, McBride aims for straight-ahead jazz. Grounded by a levelheaded McBride, the quintet struts through the tune with vintage, even-tempered cool.
