Tony Scherr's music exists in a nebulous zone where jazz and folk rock meet, and his impressive resume as a sideman and producer reflects that: John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, Norah Jones, Jessie Harris, and Bill Frisell are all past collaborators, all artists who dwell in a creative region of jazz's borderlands. Now, he's stretching his wings as a frontman during a Monday night residency at the Living Room. On this track, "I Could Understand," there's not much jazziness in sight, but there is skillful, folk-inflected songwriting executed by a band that manages somehow to sound tight and laid back at the same time. Scherr is joined at the Living Room by Anton Fier & Rob Jost.
