Bebel Gilberto has the DNA of Brazilian music royalty: her dad is the father of bossa nova, João Gilberto; her mom is Brazilian singer Miucha; and her uncle is the prominent singer songwriter Chico Buarque. The DNA of Gilberto's music, however, echoes her own life, which has been spent as much in Rio de Janeiro as in Manhattan.
The ethereal bossa nova vibe and a little trill of a Brazilian accent are there, tinged with a techno sensibility and English-language lyrics that jibe with the tastes of New York's urban aesthetes.
