East L.A. rock institution Los Lobos has been playing its eclectic blend of rock, Americana and traditional Mexican rhythms for nearly four decades. Since first forming to play Mexican folk in the early '70s, this quintet has continued exploring and incorporating U.S. and Mexican musical traditions into its sound and has succeeded in creating music that embodies the richness of Mexican-American culture.
Download the group's song "Tin Can Trust" above, which is the bluesy title track from the band's 17th album. And because a true litmus test for cool isn't album sales (that's nice too, of course) but whether you've played Sesame Street, watch a video of Los Lobos performing a cumbia called "Elmo and the Lavender Moon" from an early '90s appearance below.
Los Lobos both bid farewell to 2011 and ring in 2012 by performing two sets at the City Winery on Saturday night.
