Originally formed in Memphis, Tenn. in 2001, the Reigning Sound is led by garage punk legend Greg Cartwright, who used to play in The Compulsive Gamblers and The Oblivians. The band now calls Asheville, N.C., home and features David Wayne Gay on bass, Lance Wille on drums, and WFMU deejay Dave Amels on organ. The track “Broken Things,” which you can download above, is a revved-up southern rock vessel driven hard by Cartwright’s strained vocals and Amels' sonic organ riffs. Following Friday night’s gig at The Bell House in Gowanus, Brooklyn, the band is scheduled to perform an afternoon show across the Hudson in Hoboken, N.J. at Maxwell's. If you can't make the show, you can tune into hear the band on WFMU's Cherry Blossom Clinic from 3 to 6 P.M.

That is an uncommonly good song. Even though it's not "in my zone", I am intrigued by those guys, and that's a good thing. Right on...
Hooray for DA the DJ!
