Chris Bathgate
“No Silver”
Playing Friday night at The Rock Shop (249 4th Avenue, Park Slope)
Info: Tickets ($10) | Directions
Coming out of the small but stellar Michigan folk scene, Chris Bathgate has inspired comparisons to fellow contemporary folk artists like Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine and Damien Jurado. Based in Pinckney, Michigan, the 29-year old singer/songwriter has recently released his fourth full length album, Salt Year.
The collection of somber and reflective tracks, Bathgate explained, were born out of a period of personal tumult. "These songs are the battle cry for that time," he said, "and recording them was a painful and joyful experience." The song “No Silver” features Bathgate’s keen cues for smooth collective rhythms over sprawling instrumentation.
