It’s hard not to compare the vocals of the London-based experimental folk artist David Thomas Broughton to the ethereal vibrato of fellow countryman and composer Anthony Hegarty. But Broughton diverges from Hegarty with his certain knack for non-traditional instrumentation. The 1:32 mark of “Perfect Louse,” for example, features a lo-fi showdown of feedback loops and guitar strumming during a 20-second Nintendo-inspired glitch trip. In addition to experiencing Broughton's sound at the Sycamore’s cavernous basement Monday night, prepare to see some live show antics. Broughton is known to engage in ironic dancing and spontaneous mixes of field recordings and vocal and guitar samples into his music onstage.
