What is it about Iceland? There’s something about that country (the long winters? The fantastical barren moonscapes?) that causes its citizens to make pretty, ethereal and perplexing music. Skuli Sverrisson is no exception to that rule. The New York-based bass guitarist and composer has played with experimental musicians from across the musical spectrum, Wadada Leo Smith and Lou Reed among them. But throughout Sverrisson's work, there is a common thread: a very Nordic sense of loneliness and beauty. This song, “Her Looking Back,” comes from a new album titled Seria. It’s played mostly by Sverrisson, with additional musicians providing string and woodwind textures, including Blonde Redhead's Amadeo Pace. Sound like: winter’s first snowfall.
