San-Francisco-based singer songwriter Mirah got her start in the budding Northwest indie music scene in the late '90s while attending Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
The Philadelphia native quickly became one of the scene's mainstays thanks to her soothing voice intoning vivid, uninhibited (though always smart and sincere) lyrics. From her raw, lo-fi work of the early aughts to the rich acoustic instrumentation of her last studio album (a)spera, Mirah’s music possesses an inherent spirit of unwavering curiosity.
Download the samba-styled “Country of the Future” from her 2009 effort above. In the video below, watch Mirah take on auto-tuned pop in the 2011 song “Low Self Control Feat. Tender Forever.”
Mirah performs at Glasslands Gallery on Monday night.
