Thanksgiving is a time best spent with friends and family, not at a show. New York City knows this, apparently – I couldn’t find any gigs to alert for tonight. Head to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade instead for the Father Ryan High School Marching Band, all the way from Nashville, Tennessee. 

"It’s pretty high velocity," said Marching Band Director Jereme Frey of his school's parade show. "We’ve got a section with kids running and jumping over each other. We’ve got all sorts of stuff going on."

The parade will mark a number of milestones for Frey and for Father Ryan High School. It's the school's first appearance in the parade - a spot they earned after submitting for the first time. It will also mark Frey's return to the event - he marched in it as a student "many years" ago.

"We’re really lucky," he said. "Some bands repeatedly apply and haven’t gotten it and we got it on our first try."

The band will be performing the John Mackey composition Asphalt Cocktail at the parade.
