Alabama Shakes (Pieter M. van Hattem)

Alabama Shakes
"I Ain't The Same"
Playing on Thursday at Terminal 5

The Alabama Shakes have had a big year. The garage soul band, who do in fact hail from Alabama, released their debut, Boys & Girls, to great acclaim. They caught the ears of critics and fans alike -- including Jack White, who took them out on tour.

Download the song "I Ain't The Same" (singer Brittany Howard’s voice will remind some listeners of classic rock singers like Janis Joplin), and watch a video for the song "Hold On," below.

Alabama Shakes plays Terminal 5 Thursday night.

Hey, McArthur Foundation!--John Schaefer SHOULD get a Genius grant. He has single-mindedly (one could say obsessively) sought out all kinds of music, and brought it to us on the radio, for YEARS. I can't tell you the number of musicians I've come to love, whom I would never have known if it weren't for his programs. Kudos to you, John, and thanks. I know I speak for many.
